The largest retailer in the world Wal Mart has announced that coming Tuesday it would slash the price of Apple iPhone to $ 97. Yes you heard it right- iPhone 16 GB 3GS would be available at just the price of $ 97 which is almost frugal considering the device. This comes as a result of Apple’s intention of clearing out the inventory with the retailers as it prepares itself for the launch of a brand new iPhone next month. The company clearly considers the model outdated and obsolete.

The iPhone currently sells for $ 199 along with a two year contract for AT&T which is the phone’s exclusive service provider. The new price will save customers exactly a hundred dollars. As a matter of fact Apple sold 8.5 million iPhones last year which is more than twice of what it sold in the same period an year back. As industry watchers are gushing over smartphone market rise of nearly 50 percent from an year ago, the sales figure from major players like Google, RIM and HP stands at 54 million units. Although experts had believed that the price offering of the iPhone would be $99, the retail giant has chosen to pleasantly surprise everybody.
